Ankobrah Beach Resort - Axim Getaways Part 1
Super brief because this review was completely unplanned, but definitely worth the detour. Ankobrah Beach Resort is a resort on the shores of Axim, about 2 hours away from the Takoradi airport (Sidenote: They arrange pick ups not only from the Takoradi Airport (¢300 one way, ¢600 in and out) but all the way from Accra too (¢1300 one way, ¢2600 in and out). From the main entrance to the actual gate, it’s about a 3 minute drive on a fairly decent road, unless it rains then some parts can be pretty bad. They’re open for day trips as well, not just overnight stays and they arrange a lot of tours to places like Little and Great Ankobra rivers, Fort Apollonia Museum and the Nzulezu Style Village(the village on the river). There are also workshops for guests interested in trying new things like archery and surfing.
They have massage packages, a playground of some sorts and a mini “library” which features a lot of German books - apparently the resort is German-owned. They have a decent selection of games (board and card games etc) which are also in German but are fairly easy to understand.
Its extremely peaceful and calm here - super quiet- and like most resorts in this side of town, built around a completely natural theme. When you’re not on the beachside you’re almost completely surrounded by trees and plants. I should add, it gets really dark at night.
📍The Beach
(It’s very open, so expect to see locals pass through on their way wherever)
The land is big, but there are only 20 chalets on-site. I think that’s to make sure the peaceful/serene vibe is maintained - probably wouldn’t be if it was overcrowded.
Prices for the chalets/bungalows are categorised under Off Season (Normal days) and Peak Season (Public/National/Global Holidays).
Off Season
Executive Chalet (2-3 Guests, 1 Double Bed) - €129
Executive Family Chalet (2-6 Guests, 2 Double Beds) - €169
Deluxe Room (1-2 Guests, 1 Double Bed) - €95
Deluxe Twin (2-4 Guests, 4 Single Beds) - €95
Eco-Rooms (Single, Double or Triple beds. No bathroom ensuite. No AC) - €33
Peak Season

Bookings for 4-6 days attract a 10% discount and 7+ days a 20% one. Applies to all rooms except Eco-Rooms which have a fixed discount of €3 for 4-6 days and €6 for 7+ days.
All rooms prices include the 17.5% tax but exclude the 1% tourist tax.
I didn’t get pictures of the other rooms because the place was almost fully booked meaning each room was occupied but they all have pretty much the same look. The main difference here is the room size/space.
I got a Deluxe Room which was really nice. Definitely worth noting the room was really clean. The decor theme was Ghanaian - so mostly stone, African print curtains, rafia lamps and the works. The room wasn’t very well lit even during the day - there wasn’t enough artificial light and the windows didn’t let much light in either. Super comfortable mattress though - I slept really well. The room came with a fridge (which unfortunately wasn’t working properly) and a desk. Toiletries provided were very very limited, there was only a bar of locally-made soap and towels. It would be in your own interest to bring your own.
There is wifi available and it worked just okay outside but it barely worked in-doors. My network too was almost non-existent in the room too. Turns out there’s dumsor even in those parts because the lights went out twice but that was handled pretty fast (I don’t know if they came back on or they have an alternative power source for such situations)
Breakfast is on the room, but for non-residents, its ¢45 per head. Simple yet filling, I loved that they got my egg right (not fried till it was rubber but not undercooked at all). Clear German influence - they had schnitzelssss! The rest of the food is a little expensive but the portions are big! My noodles easily fed 2 people even though there was ONE prawn in my seafood noodles (Special s/o to my waiter Emmanuel. Very patient and helpful). Good taste too. Some things take a while to get ready so order as soon as you possible.
You can see their menu here.
So these are the basics. Super brief but hopefully informative enough. It’s a good place if you’re looking for a quiet getaway in nature or by the beach. I personally didn’t see any, but apparently there are the occasional oil deposits on the beach. That, unfortunately is beyond the administration’s control.
