The Vacationist!

I spent the most relaxing weekend ever in Aburi at the beginning of the month! I’m a big believer of getting out of Accra as much as you can, so during the long weekend my girls and I stayed over at the Vacationist, a new vacation home in Aburi.

I’m using the term “new” loosely here because it’s been around for a few years, it just opened to the public earlier this year.

The house is absolutely beautiful! White walls, floor to ceiling windows, very high ceilings and the most beautiful view of Accra ever! I genuinely believe its one of those views you 100% need to see for yourself. There are 3 bedrooms, a game room, a pool overlooking Accra, a designated cinema area and plenty outdoor spaces. It’s a super romantic space at night, so I would 100% recommend it for a couples getaway.

It is under an hour away from Accra Mall on a good day, and if you would rather not drive it costs around ¢50 via Bolt.

Sidenote, the path off the main road leading to the house is a bit rocky, which makes it relatively hard for lower cars to use the road. It’s actually not a far walking distance from the main road BUT, there are pick up options (via bike or car) for those who would rather park their cars at the nearest vantage point and be chauffeured to the house.

Super convenient!

It goes without saying a high end space like this doesn’t come cheap - the current rate is ¢7,500 a night, or the prevailing cedi equivalent of $1000.

The rate includes:

  • Use of the entire house

The house sleeps 6 people. There are 3 bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. The master bedroom (red) and the 2nd room (orange) are on the first floor while the last room (yellow) is on the ground floor. Each room comes with an air conditioner, a water heater, basics like soap and towels.

Parties without prior notice are generally not allowed but you can have 6 non-staying guests over at no charge. After 12 people (including those sleeping over), additional charges apply.

  • Use of the pool

And let me say again, the view >>>>

  • Hour-long massages for each guest

They will set it up for you wherever you want, but next to the pool is the most ideal place ever. The masseuse I got was amazing, he was releasing knots I didn’t even know I had!

If you have a gender preference (because I know some people do when it comes to physical contact), please let them know ahead of time.

  • Food for each guest

This covers breakfast, lunch and dinner for each guest (and brunch on the day you leave). There is a frequently updated menu with 10 choices including seafood fried rice and ghanaian meals like jollof and banku. When you book, you are sent the menu to pick ahead of time so the chef can make the necessary preparations.

  • Use of the quad bikes

For the thrill enthusiasts like yours truly, this is one of the most fun activities available!

You can choose to ride yourself or have the guide take you on a trip through Aburi. Think of it as an Aburi tour via bike.

Each ride lasts around 45-60 minutes per person.

  • Karaoke & Movie night set-ups on request

Karaoke as always is such a fun vibe in groups but the movie set up is such a romantic vibe, I would 100% recommend it for couples.

  • In-house cooking experience

This works for both lunch or dinner. You pick a meal of the menu and the chef takes you through it. It’s such an effective bonding activity (surprisingly)! We made seafood fried rice and I am 100% patting myself on the back it was AMAZING.

Between 6 people, thats ¢1250 a night for a fully catered stay with activities - definitely worth the price.

There is a backup generator (because, Ghana), 24 hour security AND the manager is always reachable by phone so you’re 100% in good hands.

You can reach them here for enquiries and to book (the booking process is very easy and straightforward - you just need to confirm availability and make a deposit (Cancellation policies apply).
